The Life Upgrade

One of my News Year’s resolutions was to upgrade my reality. It’s become my latest cat-call as everyone around me seems to be trading up, choosing better and living wiser. I’m not taking a note from The Secret and attempting to manifest a new car, bigger apartment or glamorous job. No… I’m searching for more meaning and better quality experiences in my every day.

I want to feel more in every area of my life. I want better quality not quantity.

Our external world is the biggest reflection of the space within us. Crazy in the head, heart and mind generally equates to a pretty messy experience.

So I’m taking these steps to live just a little bit better each and every day.

Choose better, choose quality.

This is SO simple – make better choices. Make more informed decisions to better yourself and the people around you. Actively seek out new experiences, intelligent conversation and soulful connections that  fill you up with fun, laughter and support.

Don’t hang out with toxic people. Dump the motherfu*ker who’s been holding you down and stop engaging with bullshit and negativity.

Don’t spend all your cash on frivolous rubbish. Try saving some for another day.

Don’t keep banging your head in a job you hate. Go on a hot date with seek dot com and see what else is out there.

…Think less drama and less gossip.  Choose more love, ease and grace.

Morning Rituals

I’m not a morning person, I don’t fist-pump for joy as I wake up and you’ll never catch me meditating by the ocean at 6am – farrk no. I like sleeping in, drinking coffee, checking Facebook and then rushing off to work.

So I keep my morning rituals really simple – I brush my teeth and scrape my tongue (it’s hella good for getting rid of the bacteria that accumulates in your mouth when you sleep) and then I have a glass of warm lemon water to wake-up my digestion.

I’ll do 5 minutes of deep breathing (I sound like Darth Vader) and then I make a coffee.

It’s a much nicer start to the day and sets me up in a positive frame of mind to make good decisions and take right action.

Remember to Reset

I consider myself a “gregarious introvert” (my darling friend Andrew penned that term and I’m totally stealing it!) – I reset and recharge when I’m by myself. Some people expand in the company of others but I’m the opposite.

I spend a hellaovalot time in my own company. Some people hate being by themselves but I just love it. I dance around in my undies, watch trash TV, read self-development and metaphysical books and listen to loud and offensive techno. This is the type of stuff that I just love. It calms my brain down and makes me happy.

I love this quote from A Course in Miracles –

“I am responsible for what I see
I choose the feelings I experience and
I decide upon the good I would achieve.
And, everything that happens to me
I ask for, and receive as I have asked”

You are ultimately responsible for yourself. So start trading up, living better and choosing quality not quantity. Be ruthless with your time and energy. Both are precious so don’t waste them.
